SVT-40 rifle

The SVT-40 semi-automatic rifle, produced in the USSR from 1940, was an improved version of the original SVT-38 model. The original SVT-38 rifle had its shortcomings related to overloading of parts and was not very successful during the Soviet-Finnish conflict. However, on Stalin's orders, the rifle design was improved and replaced with a new and more robust version - the SVT-40.

Production of the SVT-40 began in 1940 and continued until 1945. During this time, approximately 1.326 million SVT-40 rifles and 51,000 sniper versions were produced. Production of the sniper versions was later discontinued due to the inadequate performance of these weapons. The total number of SVT-38 and SVT-40 rifles produced in all versions is estimated to be less than 2 million. The SVT-40 Tokarev is chambered in 7.62x54R.
