In the 1920s, John Browning designed a self-loading pistol with the designation Browning HP (Browning Model 35), which was produced in the Belgian armory Fabrique Nationale (FN) under the designation GP (Grande Puissance).
The pistol was completed in 1935 and shortly after included in the equipment of the Belgian army. Its magazine had a capacity of 13 cartridges and soon it was also produced for export to countries such as China, Peru, Lithuania, Estonia and others. In Canada, in the city of Toronto, the John Inglis company also proceeded to manufacture this pistol. After the Second World War, production was resumed at the Belgian company FN, and this pistol is still in service in many countries.
