Carcano Model 38 bolt-action rifle

Carcano rifles were the main infantry armament of the Italian army since the First World War. The Carcano Model 38 rifle is an Italian military repeating rifle developed in 1938. This rifle is named after the Italian designer Salvatore Carcano and was one of the main firearms of the Italian armed forces during World War II.

The Model 38 is a repeating rifle chambered in 6.5 mm Mannlicher-Carcano (6.5 x 52 mm). This rifle was produced in several versions and used by various military units, including the Italian Army and some units of the German Army that captured the rifles after the surrender of Italy in 1943. The rifle in our inventory is just the variant chambered for the German 8x57JS cartridge.

The Carcano Model 38 rifle is most famous for being used in the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Specifically, it was the Carcano Model 91/38 version used by Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged assassin, in the commission of this act.
